High-End Makeup Dupes

I recently managed to look through my makeup collection and put together a list of affordable makeup products, which I find, are quite similar to some higher end products.

I’d just like to point out that some of the makeup dupes mentioned are not going to be of the exact same quality, texture and colour as the higher end makeup. These are just some really good alternatives to products you might have had your eye on for a while but just haven’t managed to buy yet, because of the scary price tags attached to them.

Face

1. L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer

The first makeup dupe I have for you is the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in the shade “Orange Corrector”. This product is a good alternative to the Bobbi Brown Corrector, which I have in the shade “Peach”.

I purchased both these products for the purpose of correcting undereye dark circles and I find that they both do this rather well.

The Bobbi Brown Corrector comes in a sleek, compact packaging that comes with a mirror. The corrector is of a creamy consistency, and isn’t too orange, so it can correct and conceal under eye discolouration at the same time. I find that it’s easiest to apply with your finger or a small brush and is really easy to blend. I love that it brightens up my under eyes and doesn’t crease too much when it’s set with a powder. One thing that I don’t like about this corrector is the small amount of product provided. It retails for R 300.00 and can be purchased at the Bobbi Brown counter in Edgars or online.

The L.A. Girl Pro Concealer is in a tube form, with a brush applicator. This makes it really easy to apply, as you can just squeeze out the amount needed, apply it to your under eyes and then blend with either your finger or a brush. However, I find that the colour of this corrector is extremely orange. So you would have to be careful not to apply too much or the orange colour will be visible through your concealer. I do still find this to be a good alternative to the Bobbi Brown Corrector because it does do its job at covering under eye dark circles. It can be bought at Dischem for R 49.95 or online.

2. L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer

Next up, would be the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer once again. This time, however, it can be used as a dupe to the Mac Prolongwear Concealer.

I have the Mac Prolongwear Concealer in the shade NW25. I have mentioned this product before in my Top 10 Favourite Makeup Products post. It is a great concealer that has high coverage, blends well and comes in a container that holds a lot of product. I usually apply this product with a beauty blender or a brush. It also doesn’t crease easily when you set it with a powder. This product can be purchased for R 295.00 at any Mac or Edgars store, or even online.

The reason why I think the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer is a good alternative to this product is because it also has a high coverage and blends easily. This concealer comes in a wide range of colours so you’ll be sure to find a good match to your skin tone. I have it in the shade “Pure Beige”. You can apply it with a beauty blender, a brush, or even your finger, and it won’t crease if you set it with a powder. This product can be purchased for R 49.95 at Dischem or online.

3. Nyx Rouge Cream Blush

The next product is a dupe for the Mac Cremeblend Blush in the shade “Pose”, which was also mentioned in my Top 10 Favourite Makeup Products. A similar, more affordable product to this is the Nyx Rouge Cream Blush in the colour “Glow”.

The Mac Cremeblend Blush is a great everyday blush that can be blended in easily to the cheeks using a brush or your fingers. It is really pigmented and has lasted me forever. It can be purchased for R 275.00 at any Mac counters or stores, or even online.

The Nyx Rouge Cream Blush is almost identical to this product. The packing is really similar and the colour too. The only difference I have found is that the Nyx blush is not as pigmented as the Mac one. However, this can be solved by just adding a little more product to your cheeks using a brush or your finger. This can be purchased at Clicks for R 110.95 or online.

4. The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain

Another great makeup dupe I have for you is The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain. This product is almost identical to the Benefit Benetint.

The Benefit Benetint is another everyday product. It’s extremely easy to use, as you just dot a bit of the stain onto your cheeks and blend it in with your finger. This cheek tint will give you a nice flush of colour for the rest of the day. It comes in a really nice container with a lot of product. You can buy this product in some Edgars and Red Square stores for R 385.00, or online.

The alternative to this product, The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain has the same concept. You just roll up the lid and apply the product to your cheeks or lips. It has the same effect of giving you a flush of colour to your lips or cheeks. You can purchase this product at The Body Shop stores for R 150.00.

5. L.A. Girl Velvet Hi-Lite Contour Stick

These next products are two of my favourites. The L.A. Girl Velvet Hi-Lite Contour Stick in the shade “Luminous” can act as a dupe for the Mary-Lou Manizer by theBalm Cosmetics, which is another product mentioned in my Top 10 Favourite Makeup Products.

The Mary-Lou Manizer is a highly pigmented highlighter in a powder form. It’s a beautiful, light colour with just the right amount of shimmer in it. It comes with a lot of product in the packaging. I usually apply this to the highest points of my cheeks, the tip of my nose and cupids bow using either a brush or my finger. You can buy this highlighter on Instagram from @muse.sa or online for about R 385.96.

A similar drugstore highlighter to this is the L.A. Girl Velvet Hi-Lite Contour Stick. I wouldn’t say this is as pigmented as the Mary-Lou Manizer but it does come close. It does, however, manage to give a subtle, healthy glow. I find that it’s really easy to apply and blend in with your finger because of its stick form. I would suggest doing this before you apply any face powder to achieve the greatest intensity of highlighter. I apply this to the same areas mentioned previously. You can buy this product online or from Dischem for R100.00.

Lips

1.  Nyx Lipliner Pencil

The first lip makeup dupe I managed to find, was the Nyx Lipliner Pencil in the shade “Peekaboo Neutral”. This lip liner is quite similar to the Mac Lip Pencil in the shade “Soar”.

This Mac Lip Pencil is one of my favourite lip liners because it’s such a great, neutral lip colour. The lip liner is highly pigmented and creamy. You can purchase this product from any Mac stores or online, for R 210.00.

The Nyx Lipliner Pencils are my favourite drugstore lip liners because they come in so many different shades. They’re really creamy and are quite pigmented. You can buy this lip liner at Clicks or Dischem for R 54.95, or online.

2. Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

The next lipstick dupe I have is the Rimmel Apocolips Lip Lacquer in the shade “Nova”. This is a dupe for the Mac Cremesheen Lipstick in the shade “Fanfare”.

This Mac lipstick is another great subtle, everyday lip colour. It is a cremesheen lipstick, so it doesn’t appear too opaque and intense on the lips. You can buy this product from any Mac stores or online for R 220.00.

A great alternative to this lipstick is the Rimmel Apocolips Lip Lacquer because their colours are extremely similar. This product is also really pigmented. One difference you may find with these products is the finish. The Rimmel Lip Lacquer has more of a glossy finish compared to the Mac lipstick. You can buy this product from Clicks or Dischem for R 35.00.

3. Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm

Another Mac lipstick dupe that I found, is the Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm, in the colour “Elusive”, number 205. This product is almost identical in colour to the Mac Amplified lipstick in the shade “Chatterbox”.

This Mac lipstick is a pigmented, baby pink colour. It’s a really creamy lipstick which shows up well on your lips. It can be purchased at any Mac stores or online for R 220.00.

The Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm is a great dupe for this lipstick. It’s also really creamy, pigmented and has the same finish as the Mac lipstick. You can buy this Revlon Balm from Clicks or Dischem for R 155.00.

4. Essence XXXL Longlasting The Matt Lipgloss

This Essence Longlasting Lipgloss in the shade 06 is a similar colour to the Lime Crime Velvetine in the shade “Bleached”.

The Lime Crime Velvetine is a peachy, nude colour. It is a highly pigmented, matte liquid lipstick. One downside to this product is that it can make your lips feel quite dry, so I would suggest moisturising your lips well before application. You can purchase this product online for about R 307.00 or from Instagram @muse.sa.

The Essence Longlasting Lipgloss is a similar shade to the Lime Crime Velvetine, however, it is more of a brown nude. They both have a matte finish, however, despite what the packaging says, this lipgloss is most definitely not long lasting. It is quite creamy and doesn’t dry the lips. You can buy this lipgloss from Dischem or Clicks for about R 36.95, or online for R 44.50.

5. Nyx Lipliner Pencil

A great lipstick dupe for the Inglot AMC Lip Pencil Matte in the shade 28, would be the Nyx Lipliner Pencil in the shade “Pinky”.

The Inglot Lip Pencil is one of my favourite lip products. It’s a pretty, pink summer shade that’s really easy to apply. It has a matte finish but doesn’t leave your lips feeling dry. You can buy this from Inglot stores or online for R 249.00.

The dupe I have for the Inglot Lip Pencil is almost the exact same colour as this product. This Nyx Lip Pencil is also a bright, pink shade. It’s a really pigmented and creamy lipliner, that has the same finish as the Inglot Lip Pencil. This lip liner is R 54.95 at Clicks or Dischem and can even be bought online.

6. Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream and Lipliner Pencil

Once again, this Nyx Lipliner Pencil in the shade “Hot Red” acts as a dupe for a high-end product. Like I said earlier, these are my favourite drugstore lip liners. As well as this, the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade “Monte Carlo” is similar to the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick in the shade “La Bouleversante”, number 51.

This Chanel lipstick is one of my favourite red lipsticks because it’s a perfect summer colour. It’s a highly pigmented, creamy lipstick and is quite long lasting. It also has a matte finish. You can buy this product from Edgars or online for R 567.96.

The alternatives to this product, are actually really similar in colour. The Nyx Lipliner Pencil, as I mentioned earlier is highly pigmented and creamy, and I can say the same for the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream. However, I will say that the Soft Matte Lip Cream isn’t as long lasting as the other two products. Both these lip products can be purchased from Clicks or Dischem for R 109.95 for the Soft Matte Lip Cream and R 54.95 for the lip pencil.

7. Nyx Lipliner Pencil and Soft Matte Lip Cream

So no surprise, these Nyx products made it onto this list yet again. I find that a good alternative to the Mac Matte Lipstick in the shade “Diva”, is the Nyx Lipliner Pencil in the shade “Mahogany”.

This Mac lipstick is one of my favourites in my collection. It’s a perfect autumn and winter shade. Plus, I love matte lipsticks, as you may have noticed. This lipstick is long lasting creamy and really pigmented. You can buy this product from any Mac stores or online for R 220.00.

The Nyx Lipliner Pencil in the shade “Mahogany” is a little too brown to be an exact match for the Mac lipstick. However, I find that if you place a red colour over this, for example, the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Monte Carlo”, mentioned earlier, you’ll reach a shade that’s almost identical to “Diva”. You can purchase these products from Clicks or Dischem for R 109.95 for the Soft Matte Lip Cream and R 54.95 for the lip pencil.

8. Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm

Next up, is the Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in the shade “Shameless”, number 215. This acts as a dupe for the Mac Matte Lipstick in the shade “Heroine”.

This Mac lipstick is one of my favourite purple, summer shades. I love that it’s matte yet so creamy and pigmented. You can purchase this lipstick from Mac stores for R 220.00 or online.

The dupe I found for this lipstick is a bit off in colour. However I find that if you place a nude lipstick over it, or even a bit of concealer, you can achieve the same colour as “Heroine”. The Revlon Balm has a matte finish and is also just as creamy as the Mac lipstick, which is why I think it’s a good alternative. You can buy this product from Clicks or Dischem for R 155.00.

IMG_4713.JPG

9. The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick

Lastly, I managed to find a dupe for the Mac Satin Finish Lipstick in the shade “Rebel”. That would be The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick in the shade “Damson in Distress”, number 240.

This Mac lipstick is a really popular, purple shade. It has a slight sheen to it as it has a satin finish and it is of course, highly pigmented. You can purchase this lipstick from Mac stores or online for R 220.00.

The dupe for this lipstick is so similar in colour and really pigmented as well. It also has the same finish as the Mac lipstick. It can be purchased from The Body Shop stores for R 145.00.
